Project Overview

Highland Services provided their services to Henstaff Construction on the full renovation of multi-bed rooms, within the maternity suite of the hospital. This demonstrates the relevant experience and capability needed to carry out the works on this contract.We conducted regular internal assessments to help us to identify efficiencies in time, cost, and quality, and also share added value initiatives with Henstaff Construction, such as looking at ease of access and plant maintenance regimes to facilitate future maintenance requirements.

Services Delivered

  • Isolate and drain down existing Mechanical Services.
  • Specific procedures and method statements
  • Remove redundant services (Heating, Domestic H&C Services, Sanitary Ware, Above Ground Drainage and Ventilation Services.
  • Install and commission new specialist Medical Sanitary ware, taps and wastes.
  • Re-configure LRHW F&R Pipe work to suit changes to layout including installation of new Low Surface Temperature Heat Emitters.
  • Install and commission new Variable Refrigerant Volume Ventilation Systems.
  • Renew ventilation services with new HTM 03.01 Compliant systems inclusive of FSD’s dampers, grilles, diffusers, louvres, attenuation etc.
  • Install and commission delivery room medical gas systems (Vacuum, Oxygen and Medical Air served form 3-Gas AVSU outside the rooms. Introduction of Entonox pain relief.

Challenges & Mitigations

Challenge

Diversion/isolation/termination of building services causing possible delays and increased cost.

Mitigation

Highland ensured established collaborative relationships were in place and followed the principles of ISO44001 so that all stakeholders / contractors are always well informed via detailed programme, briefings, e-mails, and notifications etc. Ensuring that there was no conflict regarding planned / unplanned activities and all works was managed accurately.

Challenge

Disruption to the environment and working around the public and staff in controlled environments.

Mitigation

Our staff were fully briefed on the CPP via toolbox talks and aware of their safeguarding responsibilities. Clear signage and instructions was always provided and regularly updated.
