Project Overview

Project to create a new facility for prisoners with terminal conditions and limited mobility that was undertaken during the recent Covid -19 outbreak.These works were carried out in sensitive environments and strict vetting of our workforce is required.Our significant experience in operating in HMP Prison environments has helped us to identify continuous improvement and efficiencies in time, cost, and quality, that we can bring to all our projects. This has gone some way to mitigate against any delays and additional cost because of the Covid outbreak and has ensured that the project was handed over on time and within budget.

Services Delivered

Existing cell strip out
Construction of services to bulkhead, dividing wall and privacy screen
Floor modification – Self level to complete required falls to create drainage gully
Installation of new vinyl flooring
Fitting of new white rock panels to contain water
Install new sanitary ware to DOC M Building regulations
Additional works – Increased door size to allow disabled access

Challenges & Mitigations

Challenge

Diversion/isolation/termination of building services causing possible delays and increased cost. Disruption to the environment and working around the public and staff in controlled environments.

Mitigation

Highland ensured that the client was well informed via briefings, e-mails, and notifications etc and that our staff were always fully briefed, followed Covid-19 processes and were fully aware of their safeguarding responsibilities. All signage was in place and regularly monitored and updated as required

All staff were fully vetted to ensure the relevant clearance and competencies were in place prior to carrying out any works.

All staff received a contract induction, ensuring all management obligations were considered, emergency procedures were clear, and that all site rules were understood.
